Challenges facing UK independent film and the impact of tax relief support

Our economic impact assessment modelling the impact of changes to the current UK incentive system secured an uplift in the UK film tax credit for smaller to mid-level budget projects. In the recent budget, the government announced UK independent films with a budget of less than £15m will now be eligible for a tax credit rate of 53% - a jump of 19 percentage points compared to the normal 34% credit. This intervention is much needed to support independent film production and revitalise the sector.
